Introduction

Hi! My name is Prutha Gajakas and I am from Olathe, KS. I am a sophomore on the pre-vet track majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish. I am passionate about animals, social issues, and my family & friends. I am also very passionate about learning about different cultures, which is why I’m minoring in Spanish. I love being able to communicate with people and hear about their stories and experiences. I really enjoy learning about different customs and lifestyles of people around the world. I would love to travel to lots of places and hope to study abroad in Spain.

One thing that I find very interesting is the diversity of animals. I know that is a broad statement, but I find it amazing of how animals have certain characteristics they have adapted to. It fascinates me how there’s millions of species and how we still have so much to discover/are still discovering. I find it interesting to learn about how the evolution of life is intertwined with all organisms in some manner.

I believe an example of how evolution impacts daily is how we, as a society, are expanding our knowledge about various topics in many fields. It’s incredible how far we have come to interact with animals and understanding their body systems and morphology. I also find the concept of CRISPR interesting. To me, it’s really cool how we can choose specific traits to be observed. I also understand that there are ethical issues that arise with this new technology. I hope that I will be apply the concepts from this class in my ongoing education in veterinary medicine; I want to better understand interaction between animals and their behavior.

  1. CRISPR is definitely super interesting! I don't understand it that well but I love seeing how we can alter different aspects about animals with it. It's also really cool that you're minoring in Spanish! I love the idea of learning a second language and honestly I've tried to learn a few but I never have the "energy" to become fluent. Are you already bi/multi-lingual or is Spanish going to be your first new language?

    1. Hi Litsa! To answer your question, I actually am multilingual. Spanish is my fourth language; my parents are from India so I am a native speaker in two languages from there (Marathi & Hindi). I really love languages and can understand more languages than I can actually speak.

  2. Hi Prutha
Nice to meet you! I agree with Litsa and you, CRISPR is an amazing tool. And it's actually being used increasingly in evolutionary studies. I should include some of those new studies this semester! Thanks for the inspiration:)
    Cheers, Michi
