What is Evolution?

Before I go into detail about my views on evolution, I need to clarify how I will be referring to the term “theory”. To me, a theory in science is based off of varying concepts/fundamentals that explain a specific incidence. Also, I would describe evolution (in relation to organisms) as follows- how species change over time to adapt to their needs. They can change specific features/structures or even their habits to better adapt within their population or their environment. With that clarification, I believe that evolution is both a fact as well as a theory. In my opinion, evolution is a fact since it is evident that animals are not exactly the same as they were thousands of years ago. I think it also counts as a theory since our comprehension of the process is continually developing. As we find more evidence and explanations, we might find some information to be better fit in the future.      Evidence that supports evolution includes homologous stru...

Introduction

Hi! My name is Prutha Gajakas and I am from Olathe, KS. I am a sophomore on the pre-vet track majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish. I am passionate about animals, social issues, and my family & friends. I am also very passionate about learning about different cultures, which is why I’m minoring in Spanish. I love being able to communicate with people and hear about their stories and experiences. I really enjoy learning about different customs and lifestyles of people around the world. I would love to travel to lots of places and hope to study abroad in Spain.      One thing that I find very interesting is the diversity of animals. I know that is a broad statement, but I find it amazing of how animals have certain characteristics they have adapted to. It fascinates me how there’s millions of species and how we still have so much to discover/are still discovering. I find it interesting to learn about how the evolution of life is intertwined ...
